Anne Hegerty, aka The Governess, has been forced to drop out of filming for Beat The Chasers due to catching Covid.

Taking her place on the fifth series of the show will be Issa Schultz, ‘The Supernerd’ from The Chase Australia.

Anne announced the news on Twitter this afternoon, writing: ‘Unfortunately I’ve contracted Covid-19 so won’t be filming this series of #BeatTheChasers.

‘The fantastic @ Issa25 will be stepping in for me and I’m looking forward to watching the series when it’s on air later this year. I feel fine, but I’m still positive! (in all respects) ‘.

Beat The Chasers is a spin-off series of The Chase, sticking with Bradley Walsh as host.

Instead of competing against one of the Chasers, contestants face head-to-head challenges with them all: Mark Labbett – The Beast, Paul Sinha – The Sinnerman, Jenny Ryan – The Vixen, Shaun Wallace – The Dark Destroyer, and Darragh Ennis – The Menace.

While fans may be disappointed Anne won’t be on the show, Issa looks to be just as much of a quiz aficionado.

A seven-time winner of the Australian Quizzing Championships, the 38-year-old ranked 23rd in the world at the World Quizzing Championships in 2020.

He has also made appearances on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and as a celebrity contestant on Hell’s Kitchen Australia in 2017.

Anne’s already given him the seal of approval, as she replied to a comment under her Tweet: ‘Issa is an actual Chaser and has already recorded BTC in Australia, so he knows what he’s doing.’

She also commented that she had managed to swerve the virus for two years, and this time ‘assumed it was just a cold, did an LFT to be on the safe side …’

Speaking of her co-stars, she added the show will ‘feature six SUPERB Chasers’.

Anne has been a chaser on the popular ITV quiz show since 2010, and was a contestant on the 2018 series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Beat The Chaser is the franchise’s third spin-off, the first being The Chase: Celebrity Special and the second being The Family Chase.

Beat The Chasers returns to ITV later this year, with previous episodes available to watch on ITV Hub.
