A family-run farm shop and café less than an hour from Liverpool has been named the best in the UK.
The Lambing Shed at Moseley Hall Farm, is run by Sue and Mchael Mitchell. Son Rob helps on the farming side and daughter Kathryn is the director of the farm shop and cafe.
Inside The Lambing Shed, you will find delicious home-made cakes, cooked breakfasts, hand-reared beef and lamb burgers and more, while outside there’s a play area with mini tractors for kids to ride on. Still a working farm, just off Chelford Road on the outskirts of Knutsford, families are invited along during spring time to attend its popular ‘lambing weekends’.

The Mitchell family opened six years ago with a desire to champion local produce and showcase the farm’s home-reared beef and lamb, reports MEN. Now they have been crowned the UK’s Best Farm Café / Restaurant at the prestigious Farm Retail Association awards.
Judges praised it as “a superb example of a business which understands its customer profile and then delivers a range of food and service to meet their customer’s needs”. Kathryn Mitchell, 32, who lives in the old farmhouse on the site while her parents di lei live in the new farmhouse, said: “It’s incredible really, it was amazing just to be nominated but it’s nice for the café to get recognition like this .
“When we first opened the café and shop it was tough as a new business, as we’d never done anything like this before, and it’s very different from farming, it was just us! But now we have a great team here and the shop complements the farm so well. We get all the beef and lamb from the farm, and everything we feed the animals with we grow ourselves here. We are passionate about everything we serve in the café and shop as well, I’m a real foodie so we don’t get corners, the ingredients are all local, fresh and really high quality. “
The café serves breakfast and lunch daily, but doesn’t take bookings. It has a large indoor area, conservatory section and outdoor seating next to the children’s play area. There’s also a farm shop with products from more than 75 local suppliers, including local preserves, cakes, cheese, Cheshire gins, butchers and ice cream.
Kathryn added: “It’s been a very difficult two years for everyone in hospitality and the team are so passionate and work so hard to make The Lambing Shed a success. From head chef to kitchen porter, everyone plays a crucial role, and we couldn ‘ t do it without each and everyone one of them.
“To be recognized nationally as Farm Shop Café of the Year is amazing and we have had such lovely messages of congratulations from our customers, we are so grateful for their support.”
