Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan teases Penelope’s sex scene

Bridgerton spoilers follow.

Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope – the daughter of Bridgerton’s Lord and Lady Featherington – has teased what to expect from season 2 of the Netflix period drama.

The star spoke to Digital Spy and other media about the inevitability of her own love story and sex scenes, given the nature of the novels.

When asked what would it mean for Penelope to harness these storylines, she confessed she has mixed feelings.

“I mean, it’s exciting and terrifying,” Coughlan said.

“I think because when I signed on to this show, because it’s based on the books, I knew that her love story was coming at some point, but it felt like a moment in the very distant future. And I know her love interest already , it’s Colin Bridgerton. “

Coughlan recalled when she and her co-star Luke Thompson, who plays Colin, would “joke” about it previously but has becoming daunting as time progresses.

“Luke and I, we used to joke about it all the time, and then it becomes progressively less funny and more intimidating as time goes on […] I’m really interested in how it’s gonna play out because she’s quite modern a lot of ways in that she, she’s a businesswoman. She she’s super serious about her career of hers, but she also wants the love she also wants the marriage she wants. “

Addressing the subject of her family viewing the more explicit scenes, she revealed she would have to request the producers for a “PG version” of episodes.

“I think I’m genuinely and I’m not kidding – going to ask Shondaland for a special family friendly cut. Because I just think it’s embarrassing enough watching the scenes that I am not in there like that.”

She continued: “I’m just sort of like haha, so I think I’m going to put a special request in my contract to be like, can we just get one that’s the PG version, like maybe a little kiss and then we ‘re good, because I’ve read the book.

“So I know that it gets extremely racy in that scene. I know already stuff that’s gonna happen. So I’m like, no, we’re good. We’re fine. It’s intense.”

Asked what scene from the book she would like to in the TV show, Coughlan said: “Well, there is one of the racy scenes which sounds a weird answer, but there’s a scene in the carriage. And it’s just if they’re sort of arguing, and then it all gets very romantic, shall we say, but I think it will be such a good scene in the show. It terrifies me to think of filming but I think it would be really great. “

Bridgerton season 1 is now available to watch on Netflix. Season 2 will premiere on March 25. Secret Cinema with Fever Present Bridgerton is open now in Wembley. To purchase tickets, head here.
